(Sing with rhythm)

I feel good, good, good.
I feel good, oh yes my Lord;
Because there's somethin' 'bout the Spirit of Jesus
That makes me feel good, good, good, good.

The other reason I feel good is because I got to sleep to my body's content this morning.

Why is it that when you have hopes they're often dashed, but when you have low expectations they're often exceeded?

Could you imagine going to school in the UK?

I've been doing well on midterms so far this term. I had a tough one today, though. It was tougher than I thought it would be. I don't think I did that well, hopefully a 90, but probably more like an 85. I've got another tough one coming up on Tuesday. We'll see how much studying I do this weekend.

I'm doing my history paper on the Nazi doctors and if they ever felt/showed remorse as they orchestrated atrocities and human experiments.

Perhaps the situation is improving, but I'm having a hard time trusting God with my summer plans. I want control, I want to take it into my own hands! I want to make sure it turns out just exactly how I think it should. It's hard to let it go...

Let me see if I can articulate a key but subtle difference between mathematics and engineering, since I was thinking about it today.

Mathematics has a toolbox of techniques, and it looks for problems that can be solved using those techniques. Engineering looks for problems and then looks for ways to solve them, which often involve mathematical techniques.

Mathematics is focused on the science, the knowledge, the technique itself. Engineering is focused on the problem and how to solve it.

Listening is a trait that I wish to develop as I get older.

One of my pastors, Arlen Krabill, is a particularly great listener. It feels so good to talk and know you have someone's full attention, even if you're saying things that would tend to elicit an immediate response.

It's a skill that's not really natural, especially if you aren't completely enthralled with what someone is saying. But listening is a key to effective communication, I believe.

Computer programming is sort of like golf.

Both can be extremely frustrating, but it's a wonderful thing when the inanimate object, under your guidance, does what you want it to.

Know what I mean, Vern?

Oh God, please give me a heart that really cares!

Bill Bright was the founder of Campus Crusade. His mindset was that every time he found himself alone with another person, even for a few minutes, he thought of that as a divine encounter. He assumed God had arranged it so he'd have a chance to share his faith.

But I find myself caring more about doing my work than ministering, even when I have a good chance.

Oh God! Give me more love every day.

I'm starting to get freaked out, living by myself over here.

Last night I'm sure the computer in the study spontaneously did the Windows jingle. For no reason.

Could it be my imagination, or was the closet in the study and the door to the study all shut up, nice and tight? I didn't do that, did I?

Oh well, I woke up alive and well this morning and my laptop's still here.

"Queueing" is probably the only English word you'll find with five vowels in a row. If you're ever on a game show, be sure to keep that in mind.

Wow, I went to an "elite" scholarship information meeting...when was it, Tuesday or something, and boy. Boy, that's a whole 'nother level right there. The type of people that would get these scholarships (Rhodes, Marshall, Gates), we're talking huge acheivers here, people that do amazing, unique things: design and teach classes, help save native environments in endangered areas, do humanitarian work in their world countries. Shoot, they probably START humanitarian organizations in third-world countries.

So I was intimidated. Let's say somehow I made it to an interview. They have extensive interviews, asking questions that can go absolutely anywhere. For instance, the following scenario/question was posed to an interviewee: I was walking down by the waterfront last evening, and suddenly I saw a flock of birds take off and fly away. Why?

What do you think about euthanasia? Is there anything that you are so sure about that you would never consider changing your view? How did this (name local geographic feature—valley, mountain, canyon) get here?

No “right” answers, of course. And you need to tell them why you believe as you do. They're looking for quick, ingenious thinkers who can handle themselves under pressure and can be intelligent about it.

What an experience it would be to try. I’m going to talk to the contact person. He’s a Stats professor, a subject about which I’d like to talk with someone anyway. I’m not holding my breath. Maybe if gas gets up to $52/gallon, I’ll think I have a shot.
