Happy Valley on a Fall Afternoon

This weekend I went to the Penn State-Michigan State game at Beaver Stadium with my girl. We had a lot of fun, even if it was November in Pennsylvania and not very warm. On the way in, L.L. Bean gave us free hand-warmers. Some notes:

:: I saw a guy in an old Oregon Ducks hat.
:: I paid more than I should have for tickets, but still got them for just a little over the official price.
:: I've never heard a PA announcer make such a mistake. It was after Penn State finally put a couple of good plays together, and after maybe a 23 yard pass play to maybe the 40 yard line or something, he says ... "Penn State ... TOUCHDOW ... FIRST DOWN!"
:: 108,000+ is impressive, but it's not as loud as Autzen.
:: Penn State had four turnovers in the first half. Sounds sort of like the Ducks this week, except Penn State had a defense that bailed them out.
:: They call Penn State Linebacker U and rightly so. Pozluzny, Lee, and Conner than really lay a hat to people. Multiple big hits.

Don't you remember the Washington State game about 3 or 4 years ago? That had to be about as bad. Yeah, since you'll have to come, maybe in October so you can experience a brilliant Pennsylvania fall.

I'm not doubting you that Autzen Stadium is very loud, but I'm pretty sure the throng of 108,000 at the Michigan State game was a rather dispirited bunch. I was at the Ohio State game last year with 109,000+, and it was the loudest I've ever heard that or any other stadium. When the team's playing well (which they weren't this year), the fans get louder. :-)
