It's my birthday today. I'm an ancient 22.

Mom threw a surprise birthday party for me Sunday night. I'm so unsuspecting, not the suspicious type. So when I drove into the driveway and there were lots of people in the doorway and some of them started cheering and waving, it took me a second to figure out it was for me.

Birthdays can be cruel. When I in my early teens and the twentys looked so far away I always revered them as the nirvana of life. "Once we reach twenty we have arrived." I turned twenty last birthday, 'twas not so. In fact, I'm shocked at how young they let me turn twenty. I'm not the mature, adjusted, wonderful person I'd always invisioned I'd be at twenty.

That said, Happy Birthday. May this be a year you grow in Christ as no other year before.

c'mon by, 80 is old. 22 is not old.

My goodness, NO, you are neither old nor ancient. You are only half my age, plus about three months--and I am not old--yet. It's coming mighty fast, though. "Ancient" is more like, hmm, well, maybe 99 or 100. "Ancient" makes me think of dusty and musty and creaky, which I may be if I reach the age of 99. Well, maybe creaky, anyway.

That's a great sentence, Darin -- "I'm shocked at how young they let me turn twenty." It makes perfect sense. Exactly.

Oh, sorry, that was me.

Yes Darin, that was good use of words. It's the longtime human dilemma. We never "arrive." Not here.

Within the last year my sisters and I were discussing age and Carla remarked, " I always thought when people got to be the age I am now that they were mature, well-established adults. I'm here and I still feel like a little girl inside, certainly not like I've "arrived."

Get used to it. :-)

Happy Birthday!!!
Funny, when I was little, I used to think I'd be 'old', mature, and whatever-all- else when I turned 16. Sadly enough, I'm almost 18, and I still haven't arrived. A friend I have who is 15 considers me much closer there than I actually am... My opinion? Oldness is in the eye of the beholder. Lauren

Happy Birthday By! Hope this year holds just enough suspense to keep you on your toes, enough success to keep you thankful, enough struggle to keep you fighting, but never 'ENOUGH', so that you're always wanting more from life; always wanting to grow.
